Remmina
Connects to other computers' screens over RDP, VNC and SSH from one window.
Our verdict
Remmina is what you use to reach another computer's desktop. It replaces the Remote Desktop Connection app from Windows and adds VNC, SSH and a few others in the same window.
Connecting to a Windows PC at work or a media machine in the next room takes a hostname, a username and a password, and the connection is saved for next time. Folder and clipboard sharing between the two machines work as you would expect.
It is a one-way tool. If what you actually want is for a family member to see and control your screen so they can help you, Remmina is the wrong shape and AnyDesk is the easier answer.
What's good
- Speaks RDP, so it connects to Windows machines the same way the Windows Remote Desktop app does
- Saves each computer as a named connection with its own settings
- Free, with no device limit and no account
What to know first
- Only connects out, so it cannot let someone else see your Linux screen
- Works inside your own network by default, and reaching a machine over the internet needs router or VPN setup
- Connection settings screens have a lot of boxes most people should ignore
