Terms of use

Last updated 20 September 2026

The short version: this is a free, independent guide written in good faith. It is not advice, we are not connected to any of the companies named, and you use it at your own risk.

Who runs this site

RunsOnLinux is written and published by Patrick Jennings. It is an independent editorial site. It is not a business offering services, and it is not run by, funded by, or connected to any of the companies whose products it describes.

What the information is

Everything here is our own assessment, checked against the sources listed on each page on the date shown. Software changes constantly. A verdict that was right last month may be wrong today, a maker may add or withdraw Linux support without warning, and a page may simply contain a mistake.

We do not warrant that anything here is accurate, complete or current. Check anything that matters against the maker's own documentation before you rely on it.

What it is not

Nothing on this site is professional advice, and it is not a substitute for it. That includes technical, legal, financial and accounting advice. Pages that mention tax or accounting software describe whether the program runs on Linux, and nothing more.

Changing your operating system is your decision

Installing an operating system can erase a disk. Back up your files first, and satisfy yourself that a change is right for you before you make it. We are not liable for lost data, lost time, hardware that stops working, software you can no longer use, or any other loss arising from something you read here. To the fullest extent the law allows, the site is provided "as is" and without warranty of any kind.

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer law that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law.

Trade marks and other people's names

Product names, company names and logos mentioned here belong to their respective owners. They are used only to identify the products being described, which is what the law calls nominative fair use. Their use does not imply any affiliation, sponsorship, partnership or endorsement in either direction.

Linux® is the registered trade mark of Linus Torvalds in the United States and other countries. Windows is a trade mark of the Microsoft group of companies. We are not affiliated with either.

Links to other sites

We link out to the makers of the software we describe, to app stores, and to the sources behind each fact. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, or what they do with your information once you arrive.

Our own content

The words, judgements and page designs here are ours. Quote us, and link back if you would. Please do not republish pages wholesale or feed the site to something that reproduces it as its own work.

If something here is wrong

Tell us and we will fix it. That applies to anyone, and especially to a company that thinks we have described its product inaccurately. Use the contact form. We do not accept payment to change a verdict, as how we choose explains.

Changes to these terms

We may update this page. The date at the top tells you when it last changed. These terms are governed by the law of South Australia.
