Does Sid Meier’s Civilization VI run on Linux?
Verdict: Yes
Yes. Sid Meier’s Civilization VI has its own Linux version on Steam, so it installs and plays like any other Linux game.
Civilization VI has a Linux version, but it was ported by Aspyr rather than built by Firaxis, and that shapes what you get. Aspyr confirmed in April 2017 that the Linux and Mac versions would join Windows players in multiplayer, so games across the three are not split apart.
The catch with a separately ported version is timing. Steam's own page warns that the Mac and PC versions can fall out of step during updates and patches, and that while that lasts Mac players can only play other Mac players. A port that patches on its own schedule carries the same risk, so the days just after a new patch are when multiplayer is most likely to give you trouble.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is a strategy game from Firaxis Games, published by 2K, first released on 20 October 2016.
It has a single-player side and an online one. Critics scored it 88 out of 100 on Metacritic.
