Does Discord run on Linux?

Verdict: Yes

Yes. Discord's download page offers official Linux installer files, and the app works the same as it does on Windows with the same account, servers and friends.

Discord by Discord · Chat & video calls · Has a Linux version

Discord lists Linux alongside Windows and macOS on its download page and provides several installer formats to suit different systems. Most people can also just search for Discord in their Linux app store and install it there, which keeps it updated automatically.

Text chat, voice channels, video calls, servers, roles and direct messages all behave as they do on Windows. Your account carries everything, so signing in shows the same servers and history.

Two rough edges are worth knowing about. Screen sharing with sound has historically been unreliable on Linux, and while it now works in most setups it is the first thing to break. And the small overlay that shows chat on top of a game is not part of the Linux app, so you alt-tab instead.

Nothing needs moving across. There are no local files to rescue.
