Does Eclipse IDE run on Linux?
Verdict: Yes
Yes. The Eclipse Foundation builds Eclipse IDE for Linux itself, and the download page offers Linux packages alongside the Windows and Mac ones at the same version.
Eclipse runs on Linux natively and always has. The packages page for the current release lists Linux downloads for ordinary 64-bit PCs as well as ARM and RISC-V machines, next to the Windows and Mac builds. You pick the same flavour you used on Windows, such as Eclipse IDE for Java Developers or for C and C++.
Nothing about the way you work changes. Your workspace folder, your projects and your settings are ordinary files, so copying them from the Windows machine and pointing the Linux install at the same workspace is usually all it takes. Plug-ins from the Eclipse Marketplace install the same way they did.
The thing worth checking is anything outside Eclipse itself. A plug-in that calls out to a Windows program, or a project set up to build with a Windows toolchain, will need that other piece replaced on Linux. The editor is not the problem, the tools around it sometimes are.
