Does Recuva run on Linux?
Verdict: No
No. Recuva is a Windows program with no Linux version, and there is no comparable point-and-click recovery app for Linux. Plan on good backups instead.
CCleaner offers Recuva for Windows, with the rest of its range covering Mac, Android and iPhone. Linux is not among them.
This is one of the genuinely weaker spots. Linux does have file recovery tools, and they are capable, but the ones a beginner would meet are either technical or run in a terminal window, and none of them present the simple pick-a-drive-and-scan window that Recuva does. If deleting something by accident is a regular event, that is a real loss.
The honest advice is to move the effort to the other end. Set up Deja Dup or Pika Backup on a second drive when you first install Linux, both are free and both let you pick a file out of an earlier backup. That covers accidental deletion far better than any recovery tool, because recovery only ever half works once the space has been reused.
If you do delete something important, stop using that drive straight away and get help before writing anything else to it. That advice is the same on any operating system, and it matters more here because your easy safety net is gone.
This doesn't have to stop you
One stubborn program doesn't have to decide the whole question. You can keep Windows on the same PC and restart into it only when you need Recuva. Everything else you do can move.
