Does Rosetta Stone run on Linux?

Verdict: Yes

Yes. Rosetta Stone's current products run in a browser, and its own support pages list Chrome, Edge and Firefox as supported, all of which run on Linux. There is no Linux download, and none is needed.

Rosetta Stone by IXL Learning · Education · Works in a browser

Rosetta Stone moved from boxed software to a subscription that you use online. The company's support pages list browser requirements rather than a Windows version number: Chrome, Edge and Firefox in their current and previous three releases, and Safari at its current release. Firefox and Chrome both have official Linux builds, so a Linux machine meets those requirements.

Your subscription and your progress live in the Rosetta Stone account, so signing in on the new machine picks up where you left off. There is nothing to reinstall and no licence key to find.

Speaking exercises are the part to test early. They need microphone access, which the browser asks for the first time, and Rosetta Stone leans on speech recognition more than most language courses do. Run one speaking lesson before you commit.

Old boxed copies of Rosetta Stone on discs are a different matter. Those were Windows and Mac programs and they do not install on Linux.
