Does Vortex run on Linux?

Verdict: No

No. Nexus Mods ships Vortex as a Windows installer only, and the latest release contains nothing but a .exe file. There is no Linux download and no supported way to run it.

Vortex by Nexus Mods · Gaming · No way to run it

Vortex is built and distributed for Windows. The newest release on the project's own code repository contains a single Windows installer and its update file, with no Linux package of any kind, and Nexus Mods does not list Linux as a supported platform.

People do get Vortex running through Wine, the tool that lets some Windows programs run on Linux, but it is awkward work. Vortex has to see inside the folder where your game lives, and on Linux that folder usually sits inside a compatibility setup of its own. Getting one Windows program to manage another Windows program's files through two separate layers is where most people give up.

If modding is central to how you play, plan around this before you wipe Windows. Back up your mod list and your downloaded mod files first. Nexus Mods lets you export a collection, and keeping that export means you can rebuild later rather than starting from nothing.

Some games have their own Linux-friendly mod managers, and a few need no manager at all because mods are just files you drop into a folder. Which applies depends entirely on the game.

This doesn't have to stop you

One stubborn program doesn't have to decide the whole question. You can keep Windows on the same PC and restart into it only when you need Vortex. Everything else you do can move.
