BleachBit
Clears caches, browser history and temporary files to free space and tidy up.
Our verdict
BleachBit is the CCleaner replacement, and it is more honest than CCleaner has been for years. No bundled extras, no advertising and no paid tier.
Tick the categories you want, press Preview, and it lists every file it intends to remove with a total size. Only then do you clean. That preview step is the reason to trust it.
Two things worth knowing. The default list includes cookies and saved form data, so an unthinking full clean signs you out of everything. And Linux simply does not clog up the way Windows did, so do not expect to recover many gigabytes. Treat it as a privacy tool first and a space saver second.
What's good
- Preview shows exactly what will be removed before anything is deleted
- Free with no nagging, no advertising and no paid upgrade
- Also wipes free space so deleted files cannot be recovered
What to know first
- Ticking everything including saved passwords and cookies will log you out of every website
- Linux does not accumulate junk the way Windows does, so the space you get back is often small
- Some cleaning options need administrator rights and a separate launch
