KeePassXC
Password manager that keeps everything in one encrypted file on your own computer.
Our verdict
KeePassXC is for people who do not want a company holding their passwords. Everything lives in a single encrypted file you can see, copy and back up yourself.
It is the same database format as KeePass on Windows, so an existing file opens without conversion. Browser filling works through an extension, and there is a password generator, secure notes and file attachments.
The cost of that control is convenience. Getting the file onto your phone and laptop is your job, usually by putting it in a Nextcloud, Dropbox or Syncthing folder. And there is no reset. Lose the master password and the passwords inside are gone for good. If that makes you nervous, Bitwarden is the gentler choice.

What to know first
- You arrange your own sync between devices, and a clash between two edits is your problem to sort out
