Does Grand Theft Auto V Legacy run on Linux?
Verdict: Partly
Partly. Grand Theft Auto V Legacy runs on Linux through Steam's Proton tool and players on ProtonDB rate it Gold, the second-highest rating, but its online play is guarded by BattlEye, which does not work on Linux. Expect single-player only.
Story mode is the half that works. The single player game runs through Proton without fuss and is among the better tested Windows games on Linux.
GTA Online is the half that does not. Rockstar added anti-cheat to the game on 17 September 2024 and has not enabled its Linux mode, so online sessions will not connect. Are We Anti-Cheat Yet records that as a refusal by Rockstar rather than a fault waiting on a fix.
So the question is what you bought it for. If it was the story, Linux will serve you well. If it was Online, it will not, and no setting on your PC changes that.
Grand Theft Auto V Legacy is an action and adventure game from Rockstar North, published by Rockstar Games, first released on 13 April 2015.
You can play it alone or co-operatively online. Steam lists it as fully playable with a controller. Critics scored it 96 out of 100 on Metacritic.

What you can do
No version of Linux and no setting can fix this, because the block is on the game's side. Trying to get around anti-cheat can also put your account at risk. If this is a game you play often, keep Windows on that PC, or install Linux beside Windows and restart into Windows to play.
