Does Audible run on Linux?

Verdict: Partly

Partly. There is no Audible app for Linux, but the Audible Cloud Player works in Firefox or Chrome, so your library and subscription carry on. Offline listening on the computer is what you lose.

Audible by Amazon · Music & audio · Works in a browser

Amazon does not make an Audible program for Windows either. On a computer, Audible is a browser player, so Linux is on the same footing as Windows here.

Sign in at the Audible site, open your library and press Listen now, and the Cloud Player starts. Audible asks for the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge, and the first two are normal on Linux. It remembers your place across devices, so you can pick up where your phone left off.

The limit is that the Cloud Player streams. Audible says that to listen offline you use the app on a phone or tablet, so on a computer you need an internet connection while you listen.

Your credits, subscription and library are untouched. What you cannot do is take the books with you. Audible files carry copy protection and are meant to be played in Audible's own apps and player, so they will not simply open in a Linux music player. Audiobooks you own as plain MP3 or M4B files, from a library service or a bookshop that sells them unprotected, play in any of the players below.
