Does Money Manager Ex run on Linux?

Verdict: Yes

Yes. Money Manager Ex publishes a Linux build on Flathub next to its Windows and Mac downloads, and it opens your existing .mmb file without converting anything.

Money Manager Ex by Money Manager Ex project · Money & tax · Has a Linux version

This is one of the cleanest moves you can make. The project's own downloads page lists Windows installers, a Mac disk image and a Flathub package for Linux. Flathub is an app store that Ubuntu, Mint and Fedora can all use, so installing it is a search and a click.

The program looks and works the same. Accounts, categories, payees, budgets and reports are all where they were, because it is the same software built for a different system.

Your data moves by copying one file. Money Manager Ex keeps everything in a single .mmb file, and that file is the same on both systems. Copy it to a USB stick before you wipe Windows, then open it on Linux. If you encrypted it with a password, make sure you still have that password, because there is no way around it.

Two smaller things. Any scheduled transactions carry over inside the file, but attachments are stored separately in a folder you chose, so copy that folder too. And if you had set up bank downloads, those settings are file based as well and should survive the move.
