Does ShareX run on Linux?

Verdict: No

No. ShareX is a Windows program and its makers describe it that way, with no Linux version. Flameshot and ksnip cover the capture and annotation part, and your desktop already has a basic screenshot tool built in.

ShareX by ShareX Team · Utilities · No way to run it

The ShareX site calls it a screenshot tool for Windows. There is no Linux build and no browser version.

Nothing on Linux matches everything ShareX does, so it helps to split it up. For grabbing a region and drawing on it, Flameshot is the usual pick and it is very good at that one job. ksnip does the same and adds blur and pixelate for hiding private details, plus timed captures. Both are free and both install from your Linux system's app store.

What you will miss is the automation. ShareX's workflows, its upload destinations, its file naming rules and its scrolling capture have no single equivalent. Screen recording is also separate on Linux, and that job goes to OBS Studio or to the recorder built into your desktop.

Nothing of yours is at risk. Your saved screenshots are ordinary PNG files. If you uploaded images to a service through ShareX, those accounts are unaffected, though you will be uploading by hand rather than on a hotkey.

For the screen recording side of ShareX. Much bigger than you need for a quick clip, but it is free and it works properly.

This doesn't have to stop you

One stubborn program doesn't have to decide the whole question. You can keep Windows on the same PC and restart into it only when you need ShareX. Everything else you do can move.
