Planify
Simple Linux to-do list app that can sync your existing Todoist account, or a Nextcloud or CalDAV one.
Our verdict
Planify is the tidiest way to keep a to-do list on a Linux desktop. It is a small, fast app with projects, sections, due dates, reminders and recurring tasks, and it looks like it belongs on the desktop rather than like a web page.
The useful part for a switcher is that it can sign into an account you already have. Point it at Todoist and your existing projects and tasks appear and stay matched in both directions, so your phone keeps working as before. If you would rather not use a company's service at all, it can talk to Nextcloud Deck or a CalDAV calendar instead.
It is an independent project and not connected to Todoist, so treat the sync as a convenience rather than a promise. Todoist also publishes its own Linux app, and if you are a paying Todoist customer that is the one to try first.
What's good
- Signs into your existing Todoist account and keeps both ends in step
- Also works with Nextcloud and CalDAV if you would rather not use a company's service
- Free and open source, with no account needed for local lists
- Looks and behaves like a native Linux app rather than a website in a window
What to know first
- Not made by Todoist, so new Todoist features can take a while to appear
- No apps for iPhone or Android, so your phone still needs the Todoist or Nextcloud app
- Smaller project, kept going by a small team
- Does not sync with Microsoft To Do
